Rustic Barn Wedding: Ice Cream & Hay Bales
For our first wedding feature, I wanted to find a wedding that both followed current trends and included fun and unique choices. The perfect match? This awesome rustic barn wedding in Illinois! Rustic chic is a huge trend in wedding planning, and more and more brides are searching for their perfect authentic venue like this gorgeous farm. The happy couple, Sophie and Dylan, were clearly full of love and joy on their big day, and it was so much fun to discover their wedding day story.
The wedding took place at Sophie’s grandparents’ farm, with an outdoor pasture ceremony and the reception inside their cattle barn. A lot of weddings nowadays aim for the rustic barn wedding feel, and here they were, doing the real deal! Thanks to the generosity of Meredith Washburn, their fantastic photographer, I get to share their beautiful day with you. I love so much about their wedding, but as always, the best parts are the details.
The bride and her bridesmaids got ready together in the morning, and all wore gorgeous cowboy boots. The bridesmaids wore dresses of the practically the same shade of blue but different, eclectic styles. Meanwhile, the men sported khaki suits with matching blue suspenders. Once everyone was ready and the First Look photos were taken, the wedding party made their way to the ceremony space, the farm’s pasture. In a fun touch, the wedding programs were printed on fans and handed out for guests to use during the ceremony.
Following the beautiful ceremony, rather than a traditional cocktail hour, the bride and groom hosted an ice cream cart. The two chose to serve fun flavors such as Cookie Monster and Mud Pie. Also at the cocktail hour, my favorite touch was found next to the guestbook. Dylan & Sophie set up a real-life typewriter that encouraged guests to individually type out their “keys to a successful marriage”.
After enjoying lots of delicious ice cream, the guests moved to the cattle barn for the reception. Upon entering, the guests found bales of hay set around the barn for authentic farm seating. The whole scene was lit aglow with beautiful chandeliers and Edison bulbs hanging from the ceiling. Speeches were made, cake was cut, and Dylan and Sophie danced the night away, surrounded by their many loved ones.
In my opinion, the greatest weddings are the ones that really truly reflect the couple’s personalities. Dylan and Sophie’s didn’t just show in theirs – they shone through every single picture. Their joy and love is radiating out of every picture and every detail of this wedding. I can only imagine how much joy was present on the day of! Congratulations to Sophie and Dylan, and much thanks to Meredith for letting me share their delightfully fun wedding.
